He would pass through the town of Mauch Chunk on his way to Stroudsburg. His earlier, c.1965 version is titled \"Mauch Chunk,\" the orginal name of the area. The name was changed to \"Jim Thorpe,\" and this is reflected in this later version. The earlier painting is in in the collection of the Everhart Museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania.","Abstract and colorful landscape sharply divided by blue river off center and winding into distance LS. Small town L of river with pink and white houses grouped haphazardly under mosaic of it. Blue and dark blue roofs; receding into greenery and smaller development towards UL in bright oranges and yellows. River flanked both sides by grey RR tracks. RS: greenery in foreground with town in distance suggested by orange and yellow dots. Trestle bridge across river in distance. Background with landscape of rolling hills. Very painterly with brushstrokes evident throughout. In box frame of stained pine, mitered corners.
