The quilt is traditional central medallion style, made up of applique and pieced elements. The pattern \"star of Le Moyne\" (lemon star, or eight pointed star) is used within the central medallion and the pieced work (patchwork) throughout. The central medallion is 22\"x22\". The border is printed sawtooth pattern. The quilt has twill tape, woven on a tape loom, as its edge. The backing is possibly homespun linen and not cotton. The floral border is most likely done with a roller as are the poka dots, to achieve a more precise placement of the pattern. Many of these materials have ben dated in the late 19th Century. Woven twill tape binding. Appliqué chintz cut out and applied with buttonhole stitch; floral motif center and variable star field, outline and grid quilting."},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Cotton and linen"},"geographyPlaceregion":{"label":"Place/Region","value":""},"media":{"label":"Media","value":{"mediaURL":"https://collection.folkartmuseum.org/internal/media/dispatcher/1706/full","mediaDepartment":"Object Photographs","mediaType":"Image","mediaId":"1706"}},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Variable Stars Quilt"},"geographyCity":{"value":""},"textEntriesWebsitedisplaytext":{"value":["pieced","appliqued quilt","Ohio Star and Variable Star are two of the oldest pieced-quilt designs in America.
