The colt is stained a dark brown with inserted glass eyes. The mane is of a grassy material glued to neck; sharpley defined legs and musculature; body defined by deep carving on sides. Chisel marks apparent allover with especially rough areas where legs and tail meet body, underside of neck. Body and head constructed of single piece of wood, ear separately applied. Iit is unclear whether or not legs and tail are separately applied. Rough areas might indicate joining of two separate pieces."},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Cottonwood, paint, dried grass, glass"},"geographyPlaceregion":{"label":"Place/Region","value":"Tesuque"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":{"mediaURL":"https://collection.folkartmuseum.org/internal/media/dispatcher/1662/full","mediaDepartment":"Object Photographs","mediaType":"Image","mediaId":"1662"}},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Colt"},"geographyCity":{"value":"Tesuque"},"textEntriesWebsitedisplaytext":{"value":"Animals"},"bibliography":{"label":"Bibliography","value":""},"collections":{"label":"Collections","value":"Three Dimensional Works"},"geography":{"label":"Geography","value":"Tesuque"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"152836"},"geographyState":{"value":"New Mexico"},"markings":{"label":"Markings","value":""},"signed":{"label":"Signed","value":"incised underside: 'BEN / ORTEGA'"},"geographyCountry":{"value":"United States"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"0"},"people":{"label":"Artist / Maker","value":{"displayOrder":"1","personRole":"Artist","personID":"175","content":"Ben Ortega"}},"classifications":{"label":"Classification(s)","value":"Sculpture"},"textEntries":{"label":"Text Entries","value":"Animals"},"beginDate":{"label":"Begin Date","value":"1985"},"inscribed":{"label":"Inscribed","value":"incised underside: '8-21-85'"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"August 21, 1985"},"exhibitions":{"label":"Exhibitions","value":{"exhibitionDisplayDate":"Tuesday, December 10, 1985 - Sunday, February 16, 1986","exhibitionEndISODate":"1986-02-16","exhibitionID":"291","exhibitionISOBeginDate":"1985-12-10","exhibitionBeginDate":"1985","exhibitionTitle":"Ape to Zebra: A Menagerie of New Mexican Woodcarvings","exhibitionEndDate":"1986"}},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"10 × 5 1/2 × 17 1/2\""}}]}
