Taking the form of two illustrated friendship albums as well as a handful of oils and watercolors, Goldsmith\u2019s works survive as a poignant expression of a young woman\u2019s personal relationships, skill, and tastes in rural New York in the 1820s. According to family records, Goldsmith\u2019s body of work is limited, and examples by the artist have not been seen at market for decades. This donation will make AFAM, alongside the Fenimore Art Museum, one of the two most significant repositories for this young woman\u2019s work. As the rare work of a female professional artist, these works by Goldsmith present important opportunities for enhancing the diversity of gender representation in our historical folk art exhibitions","Object information is a work in progress and may be updated with new research.
