The medal includes the name of his Mark Lodge, \u201cTemple M[ark] M[aster] Lodge,\u201d constituted in February 1810 in Bennington, Vermont. The side with the engraved names shows a burning bush in the center, part of the degree symbolism. Also on this side is a banner reading \u201cSit Lux et Lux Fuit\u201d (let there be light and there was light). The other side shows Hovey\u2019s mark\u2014a three-rung ladder with the steps representing faith, hope, and charity. The ladder is enclosed in a circle with initials around the edge, \u201cHTWSSTKS,\u201d signifying a mnemonic for the lesson taught during the ritual. Stacy C.
