Masonic Medal for L. Lamb
This engraved silver disk is known as a “mark medal,” after the Mark Master Degree with which it is associated. This degree teaches moral lessons related to craftsmanship, fairness, honesty, and charity through an allegory based on the biblical story of the building of King Solomon’s Temple. The candidate assumes the role of a stonemason constructing the temple, and as part of the ritual, he chooses a mark to distinguish his stonework from that of his colleagues. These marks were recorded in the Mark Chapter’s mark book. The symbols were personal choices and, as such, mark medals were commissioned by their owners rather than the lodge or chapter. One side usually has a standard arrangement of Masonic symbols, and the other side shows the owner’s mark
