Lodges used these prop bundles of sticks in their First Degree to signify the \u201cimportance of concentrated effort,\u201d demonstrating that those who stand together are stronger than one man standing alone. The W. E. Floding Company of Atlanta offered a \u201cnicely finished\u201d bundle of sticks for sixty cents in one late-nineteenth century catalog, while adding gilding and \u201cextra finish\u201d drove the price to ninety cents.
