Each square has a central foliage/floral design embroidered with red thread, the border has a repeated and stylized motif, outlined in red. (There appear to be faint pencil mark traces beneath some of the stitches perhaps from drawing or tracing the pattern.) The stem stitch is used throughout. The backing is of white heavy cotton, two unequal pieces, perhaps seamed by machine. Along the outside edge of the border are running stitches, in white, to secure the two layers of fabric. This is also evident along the outer edge of the pieced squares.
