In this and several other drawings, Rowe portrayed herself seated outside her modest home in Vinings, Georgia, surrounded by the profusion of flowers, shrubs, and fruit trees she nurtured on her property. Rowe\u2019s interior and exterior environment\u2014her \u201cplayhouse,\u201d as she called it\u2014was a physical space, but it also took on metaphorical characteristics as a source of her creativity.
