DescriptionThe rationality of linear and geometric designs was intrinsic to the neoclassic taste. Lattice or trellis patterns began appearing in quilted textiles by the early nineteenth century. The narrow lattice border that appears on four sides of the Susan Tibbets Candlewick Spread is enlarged on three sides of this graphic candlewick bedcover. The diamond grid encloses a gardenlike dispersion of kaleidoscopic, circular motifs that are executed entirely in tufting.
