The separation between the rings is clarified through the use of solid-color square blocks placed in between the eight points of the Lone Star. The second ring begins with the center of a lone star repeated eight times around each square. Looked at another way, one large square is superimposed at a diagonal on a second square, forming right angles between the outer points; additional triangles are placed in between each of the points. Although the pattern did not emerge in quiltmaking until the early twentieth century, its roots may be traced to the antique Islamic design of two squares superimposed at right angles to form an eight-pointed star."},"sortNumber":{"label":"Sort Number","value":"1980    37   47"},"invno":{"label":"Accession number","value":"1980.37.47"},"description":{"label":"Description","value":"Applied binding machine-seamed to top. outer border, running leaf with tulip; inner, tulip buds; top and bottom inside border, running leaf with tulip; plain blocks, opposing tulips and opposing buds; setting triangles, 1/2 motif of plain blocks."},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Cotton"},"geographyPlaceregion":{"label":"Place/Region","value":"Haven"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":{"mediaURL":"https://collection.folkartmuseum.org/internal/media/dispatcher/1042/full","mediaDepartment":"Object Photographs","mediaType":"Image","mediaId":"1042"}},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Broken Star Quilt"},"geographyCity":{"value":"Haven"},"textEntriesWebsitedisplaytext":{"value":["AMISH QUILT","TEXTILE"]},"bibliography":{"label":"Bibliography","value":""},"collections":{"label":"Collections","value":"Textiles"},"geography":{"label":"Geography","value":"Haven"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"153400"},"geographyState":{"value":"Kansas"},"geographyCountry":{"value":"United States"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"0"},"people":{"label":"Artist / Maker","value":{"displayOrder":"1","personRole":"Artist","personID":"251","content":"Clara Bontrager"}},"classifications":{"label":"Classification(s)","value":"Textiles"},"textEntries":{"label":"Text Entries","value":["AMISH QUILT","TEXTILE"]},"beginDate":{"label":"Begin Date","value":"1925"},"culture":{"label":"Culture","value":"Amish"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"1925\u20131935"},"exhibitions":{"label":"Exhibitions","value":[{"exhibitionDisplayDate":"Saturday, April 18, 1981 - Sunday, August 23, 1981","exhibitionEndISODate":"1981-08-23","exhibitionID":"270","exhibitionISOBeginDate":"1981-04-19","exhibitionBeginDate":"1981","exhibitionTitle":"Anonymous Beauty: Quilts, Coverlets and Bed Covers","exhibitionEndDate":"1981"},{"exhibitionDisplayDate":"Tuesday, November 16, 2010 - Sunday, December 18, 2011","exhibitionEndISODate":"2011-12-18","exhibitionID":"178","exhibitionISOBeginDate":"2010-11-16","exhibitionBeginDate":"2010","exhibitionTitle":"Super Stars: Quilts from the American Folk Art Museum","exhibitionEndDate":"2011"}]},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"Frame Dimension: 73 1/2 × 67 1/4\""}}]}
