America were imported from Europe, there was local manufacture. The shaped crest with three hearts found on this example is similar to a mirror in the Philadelphia Museum of art. Titus Gessey Collection. That Museum's piece came from a Lyme Kill Pike, Bucks County family and is one of several examples that have been found. Reproductions of this type of mirror were made in the 1920's and there are several clues to determine the authenticity of any single example: the mirror should be constructed from a single piece of wood, including the dentil molding on the front. The compass design incised near the bottom of the front should have rounded edges, not sharp and the mirror glass should be applied to the front of the support and held in place by applied molding.
