Description

Ira Hudson was Virginia’s most prolific commercial decoy carver. His main source of income was derived from building small boats, but he was renowned for making duck, goose, brant, and shorebird decoys. After 1900, and over a period of almost forty years, he produced hundreds of decoys annually, in a variety of grades. He often incorporated found wood into solid and hollow-body decoys, using the natural qualities of the woods to enhance the forms.
