When viewed alongside portraits by Williams in Monmouth County Historical Society, the sitter seems consistent with other portraits of members of Dutch families of the Freehold, Monmouth Ccounty area.  The cap worn by the sitter is similar to one worn by an unidentified sitter in a painting dated 1820.
