DescriptionMifflin County, Pennsylvania, was first settled by the Amish in the 1790s and is now home to five separate and distinct Amish groups. Four- and Nine-Patch patterns, the only designs permitted by the most conservative sects, are nevertheless the most popular types of quilts among all the groups in the county. Mifflin County Amish quilts are commonly found in a variety of fabrics, including rayon (which was manufactured in the county), and often the fabrics are mixed in a single quilt.
