DescriptionThis bedcover features an appliquéd cut-out center with a pieced overall pattern. The combination of two traditions in this manner is often indicative of a transition in quiltmaking styles, and in this case is a clue that the quilt was probably made in the second quarter of the nineteenth century. The cut-out chintz center motifs were padded employing a technique known as raised appliqué.
