Independent Order of Odd Fellows Third Degree Banner
These brilliant red banners were used in the Odd Fellows lodge for the Third, or Truth, Degree. Each banner shows the symbols associated with the degree: an open Bible conveying wisdom; a sword and scales representing justice; and an hourglass and coffin, symbols of the inevitability of death and the passage of time. The scarlet color is specific to the degree and symbolizes the “imperial quality of the purity of truth” and “the dignity and glory of the Priestly Order.”
