Description

Using a single color ballpoint pen on graph paper, a handsaw as a straightedge, a small scalpel, and Scotch tape, New Zealand self-taught artist Martin Thompson draws demanding diptychs that are derived from fractal iterations. The artist develops a mathematical sequence in his mind based on multiples of ten. He visualizes the sequence and transfers it to graph paper scaled in millimeters. On a second sheet of paper the artist recreates the sequence in reverse as a mirror image; the mimetic result is conceived and presented as a single work of art.
