Beach with Litter Baskets
The carnival-like atmosphere of Coney Island figures largely in Vestie Davis’s oeuvre. Typically these scenes capture the crowds and vitality of the busy, boisterous locale. Occasionally, though, Davis worked in a quieter mode, revisiting subject matter but devoid of people. Davis aptly called works such as this one “empties.”
