DescriptionAn inscription on this quilt states that it was presented in 1852 to Mr. (probably Reverend) and Mrs. Dunn by members of the Sewing Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Elizabeth Port, New Jersey. The quilt was probably made to commemorate the Reverend’s role in the establishment of a new Methodist congregation in Elizabeth. It is believed that the block that contains the image of a church (center top) may be the only existing visual reference to the original 1852 building of the Fulton Street congregation, as it was rebuilt in 1859.
